A Summary of the Subject and Contents of Sea Trout Nights<\/h3>\n

SEA TROUT NIGHTS by John Gray is a book presented in two parts. The first part takes us on a chronological journey through the author\u2019s fishing life, much of it spent in search of sea trout on Scottish rivers \u2013 Endrick, Earn, Allan, Border Esk and Spey \u2013 with a brief foray into Wales along the way.\u00a0 Each chapter, devoted to a favourite river, is illustrated with maps, graphs and black and white photographs, all taken by the author, of the sea trout fishing pools, the flies used and some of the fish they caught on many a summer night.<\/p>\n

The second part of the book draws on the experience of the author to guide the novice in his quest for that first elusive sea trout. We learn about the nature of\u00a0the Sea Trout<\/em>, its life and habits;\u00a0Where and When<\/em>\u00a0we might hope to find them; The\u00a0Weather and Water<\/em>\u00a0conditions likely to give us the best opportunities to catch them; The\u00a0Way and Means<\/em>\u00a0we might employ on the river \u2013 the tackle and tactics; and the\u00a0Flies<\/em>\u00a0we might use and\u00a0how to tie them<\/em>, most simple, sparse dressings, easily and simply tied \u2013 one the the most effective of all the author\u2019s night flies consisting of no more than a sparse bunch of black squirrel tail hair tied to a slim stainless steel needle tube.<\/p>\n
