Aviemore Angling Association
Salmon and Sea Trout Fishing
on the River Spey at Aviemore
The Aviemore Angling Association has merged
with the Abernethy Angling Association to form the
Abernethy and Aviemore Angling Association
The association controls the sea trout and
salmon fishing on ten miles of the River Spey between Aviemore and
Broomhill, offering excellent fishing opportunities for both members
and visiting anglers at affordable rates. The fishing is on two
separate beats - the Abernethy water and the Aviemore water. Permits
for the Abernethy water are available from Boat of Garten Post
Office, while permits for the Aviemore water can be purchased at
Cairngorm Mountain Sports in Aviemore. In addition, the association
welcomes applications for membership. Interested anglers will find
more information on the
Association website
The Aviemore Beat
The Abernethy and
Aviemore Angling Improvement Association
now manages the salmon and sea trout fishing on the Aviemore stretch of the Spey,
which comprises more than three miles of fishing on the River Spey, from the
Old
Spey Bridge above the village downstream on the left bank as far as
the Alder Bend opposite Pityoulish, which lies on the right bank.
This stretch of the Spey, with 16 named pools, was formerly managed
by The Aviemore Angling Association, now merged with the
Abernethy Angling Association. This part of the river is generally
slower flowing than the lower beats and is bordered by heavy tree
cover. In many places it is most suited to spinning and worming but
there are also some nice
fly pools, particularly for sea trout night fishing, as shown in the
photographs below. Permits for the Aviemore Association water are available at Cairngorm Mountain
Sports, Aviemore.
