The River Coquet
Sea Trout Fishing on the River Coquet
The River Coquet rises in the Cheviot Hills
and flows 40 miles east through the Northumberland
countryside to
enter the North Sea via Warkworth Harbour, with the small
port of Amble on its south bank. It is an excellent sea
trout stream, recording a catch of 531 sea trout in 2008.

Sea Trout Fishing on the River Coquet
Much of the fishing on the river is
controlled by the
Northumbrian Anglers Federation
including the Rothbury and Felton waters, which contain some
lovely fly-fishing. The Tidal reaches, adjacent to Warkworth
Castle are very productive but more difficult to approach
with the fly. The federation controls much of the Coquet's
best fishing with many fine holding pools. The season runs
from 1st February to 31st October with the river receiving
good spring runs of salmon and late runs of predominantly
sea trout, which can approach 20lb in weight. Season, day and
weekly permits are available to visiting anglers.
