The River Taf
Sea Trout Fishing on the River Taf
The Taf is a small but noted river in West
Wales, rising in the Preseli Hills of North Pembrokeshire
and flowing 35 miles to enter Carmarthen Bay at Laugharne.
The river has good runs of sea trout, recording a ten year
average annual catch (to 2009) of 358. Worming, spinning and
fly fishing are all permitted on the river, the season
running from 1st April to 17th October.

The greater part of the river is
controlled by two angling associations, the Whitland Anglers
Association and the St. Clears Angling Association.

Anglers Association.
The Club controls 5 miles of mainly double
bank fishing on the Taf, stretching from the railway bridge
above Pont Loerig railway crossing to Fforest Farm. Permits
are available from:-

Full season permit: Adult £60. Under 12,
£5. 12-16, £10. 16-21, £30. Pensioner £35. Family permits

Clears Angling Association.
The Club controls the fishing on the Taf
from Ddolerwydd Farm to the tidal waters in lower St.
Clears. It also has a superb stretch on the River Cowin at
Bancyfelin. Permits are available from:-

Full season permit: Adult, £55 plus £5
stocking levy. Pensioner, £35 plus £5 stocking levy. Junior
£10, plus £2 stocking levy. Child under 12 free.
Adult weekly permit: £40 (Pensioner £20).
Adult daily permit: £20 (Pensioner £15). (2012 rates)
Disabled angling facilities are
available.
The majority of the sea trout caught on the
Taf weigh between 1lb and 3lb but much bigger fish run the
river such as the superb 8lb 2oz fish caught in June 2002.
Each season several fish of over 4lb in weight are caught on
fly. The larger fish run from May onwards with the smaller
