The River Kent
Sea Trout Fishing on the River
Kent
The River Kent has its source in Kentmere
Reservoir and flows through Burneside, where it meets the
River Sprint. A mile or so down stream it is joined by the
River Mint to form the River Kent, which then flows down
through the old market town of Kendal only 20 miles from
Morecambe Bay estuary. The River has many waterfalls and
weirs, which migratory fish have to negotiate.

Sea Trout Fishing on the River Kent
The River Kent offers
game fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout, with
various methods allowed (fly, worm and spinning) depending
on time of year. Fishing for
Salmon starts on the 1st of February, (with catch and
release until 16 June), but the best of the fishing is from
June onwards until the end of October depending on the
water. A typical Kent salmon would be between 4-8 pounds
but in recent years catch returns have included fish up to
20 pounds in weight. The Kent is an excellent sea trout
river, recording 335 sea trout in the 2008 season.
Sea Trout start running the lower reaches of
the River around May with some good sport in July and
August. They average between 2-4 pounds with bigger fish
taken up to 10 pounds from time to time. The river has a
good sea trout record with a catch of 335 in 2008.

the River Kent around the town of Kendal. The Association is
